According to investigators, Dixon, who was 16, was identified as the shooter who killed Shane Payne on Aug. 3, 2022, in a home on Sandle Drive in the Forest Trails area. Police said at the time that several children were in the home when Shane Payne was fatally shot, including one as young as 4 years old.

Investigators said they discovered later that Shane Payne Jr. had helped Dixon shoot his father.

Then three days later, police said, Shane Payne Jr. fatally shot Dixon at an apartment complex on Ortega Farms Boulevard. Dixon died at the hospital.

Records show that the Paynes lived at the apartment complex, right next door to Dixon.

JSO said investigators learned through evidence and interviews that the two shootings were linked, leading to Shane Payne Jr.’s arrest.

Shane Payne Jr. has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder was served on the suspect.
