YULEE, Fla. – A Yulee roofing contractor is accused of taking money from clients, but not showing up for jobs that he was paid to do, the Better Business Bureau warned.
The consumer alert comes after at least two victims claimed they lost thousands of dollars.
The BBB said it is worried because this isn't the first time complaints have been filed against Revive Restoration owner Jeremy Holloway. And the agency believes more will start to pour in, especially since the BBB said he isn't returning phone calls.
George Pye, 79, is one of two people who filed complaints against Revive Restoration, the contracting company owned by Holloway, according to the BBB.
“He said, 'As soon as we get the permits, we’ll have it done within two months,'" Pye told News4Jax on Thursday.
Pye said that was in January after he paid the company more than $5,000 to fix his roof. But now it’s almost July, and no work has been done.
After waiting this long, Pye said, he has one simple request.
“A refund on my money is all I need so I can have my roof fixed," he said.
A relative hired an attorney to represent Pye, and they -- along with the BBB -- have made attempts to contact Holloway.
“We’ve called his office a couple of times and his secretary always answers," Pye said. "She just puts us off.”
News4Jax went to a Jacksonville office location on University Boulevard, but learned that location had been shut down. News4Jax then went to Holloway's home in Yulee, where someone could be heard inside, but no one answered the door.
Pye said he feels like he was swindled.
"I feel like it's wrong to take anyone's money, especially (from) old people like me," he said.
News4Jax did some background checking on Holloway, finding other online consumer complaints, involving a previous contracting company he owned. Court records also show he has an extensive arrest history.
