The armed individual was chased by officers before she was tased. JSO says she then pulled out a pistol from her waistband and fired one shot at officers.

Officers returned fire striking the suspect “numerous times,” according to JSO.

Officers identified the suspect as 22-year-old Keon Alex Atkinson and noted that they have responded to eight mental-health related calls at her residence.

The officers involved in the shooting had no prior history of involvement in an officer-involved shooting, according to JSO.

Life saving measures were performed at the scene and Atkinson was taken to the hospital where she is in critical condition.

News4JAX crews responded to the scene after receiving a tip from a viewer who reported hearing gunfire around 6 p.m.

“We heard the shots as well,” the viewer told News4JAX. “We were just a couple houses down.”

Officer-involved shootings are typically investigated by JSO’s Internal Affairs Unit and the State Attorney’s Office to determine whether department policies and state laws were followed.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
