JSO Investigating In-Custody Death (JSO)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating the in-custody death of a local inmate who was hospitalized Friday evening.

Just before 8 p.m. on June 5, 2026, Jordan Omar Sims, 42, was transported to the hospital in medical distress. Sims was pronounced dead at 9:55 p.m. Detectives with JSO’s Cold Case Unit were notified of his passing at that time.

Sims had been arrested on May 6, 2026, on charges of sale, manufacture, and delivery of cocaine within 1,000 feet of an assisted living facility.

JSO says the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sims’ death is ongoing. No foul play is suspected at this time, and the agency is awaiting the Medical Examiner’s final determination on the cause of death.
