Beloved News4JAX studio manager retires after 53 years with Channel 4!

Congratulations Freddie! You will be missed!

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, beloved studio manager Freddie Rhodes has been keeping our team in line for 53 years.

Sadly for us, it seems that’s long enough.

After more than five decades, Freddie is ready to enjoy his well-earned retirement.

But our gentle giant said he won’t be slowing down.

Believe it or not, Freddie, an award-winning announcer, has been in radio longer than he’s been in TV and that passion will continue as the longtime program director for Gospel station WCGL Victory AM 1360 in Jacksonville.

He said he plans to spend even more time at the radio station, and now he’ll be free to sleep in after many, many early mornings with us.

A devoted husband to Sara for more than 40 years, Freddie is also a deacon at Cathedral of Faith Church of God in Christ and will continue his dedicated service to the community -- and to his family, which includes five sons, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

News4JAX celebrated with Freddie for his 45th anniversary and his 50th anniversary -- and then-Mayor Lenny Curry even declared Jan. 15, 2021, as Freddie Rhodes Day in Jacksonville, encouraging “all citizens to strive each day to display the compassion for others and the unparalleled work ethic that Freddie has shown each day.”

Freddie is motivated by his family and his faith in God and has rubbed elbows with some of the greats while remaining, as his wife says “mild, meek, humble, loving and caring.”

We would love to add fantastic, radiant, enthusiastic, dedicated and determined.
