The judge followed the jury's recommendation that Martin be put to death.

McWilliams' body was found in a wooded area after she was killed.

During the trial, the jury heard that Jacey McWilliams and Martin were acquaintances in March 2008. He told her he was going to take her to a special place, and in that remote area in Middleburg he killed her with a hammer.

Prosecutors said he did it so he could steal her car to visit his girlfriend out of the area.
