JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fourth of July is right around the corner, but some people are concerned whether having a fireworks display while Duval's neighboring counties are battling flames is a good idea.
If the smoky skies don't go away sparks may not fly in Jacksonville this Fourth. The city of Jacksonville is routinely checking dryness conditions to make sure it will be safe to shoot off fireworks on Independence Day.

"We're closely monitoring them with our local and state safety and fire officials," said Christina Langston with Jacksonville Special Events.
Langston is confident the celebration will go off without a hitch. Right now Jacksonville's fireworks display is getting the greenlight, but as a mother Jill Scarangella feels her family would be let down if the fireworks were called off last minute.
"It would be disappointing and not fun for everybody -- you know it's something everyone looks forward to every year," said Scarangella.

If the fireworks are canceled the city could loose thousands of dollars in tourism revenue.
"The hotels are full, people coming down to watch the fireworks, certainly taking part in all the activities, you know that are offered downtown from area businesses and restaurants," said Langston. "Fireworks themselves are price-tagged at about $50,000."
Lara Metrione, however, is looking at the fireworks dilema differently.
"It could potentially result in more fires, then no, I don't want them to do the fireworks," said Metrione. "I would be disappointed if they made that decision from a safety or a financial standpoint."
