Clay County man pleads guilty to receiving child porn

Gregory McCarty: 'I knew it was wrong, I just didn't get rid of it'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Clay County man pleaded guilty Tuesday to receiving child pornography over the Internet.

Officials said through investigations agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement found a host computer that held images of child porn using a peer-to-peer file sharing program. After an agent downloaded files from the host computer, subscriber information was traced to 45-year-old Gregory Michael McCarty.

Upon execution of a search warrant in McCarty's home, officers seized several computers and other electronic media that were later found to contain at least 18 images of child pornography and at least 20 videos depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

McCarty reportedly acknowledged during an interview with agents that he had been receiving child porn for about two years.

"I fell into it, and never got rid of it and never quit," McCarty said. "I know it was wrong, I just didn't get rid of it and didn't, didn't stop doing whatever I was doing."

McCarty faces a mandatory minimum penalty of five years, up to 20 years, in federal prison and a potential life term of supervision.
