Dad sells son's SUV on Craigslist, says decision was difficult

Dad sells son's SUV

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Westside dad who sold his son's SUV on Craigslist says the decision was a difficult one.

Allan Gieger Jr. put his son, Allan Gieger III's SUV up for sale on Craigslist after finding his son 'smokin' dope' with his friends in it. The ad went viral, prompting a lot of support throughout the country.

"He was upset about it at first, but he understood exactly why I did it," said Gieger Jr.

Gieger Jr. says he and his son talked about the situation and all the attention it was getting. He didn't let the ad going viral impact his decision to sell the SUV.

Gieger III says though his father selling his vehicle was unexpected, they were able to work through the situation. Gieger posted to his father's Facebook page that he had seemed to learn his lesson.

To everybody who has seen my father on TV explaining himself about the reason why he sold my truck, I would just like y’all to know I’m doing right and I’m on my way to success. Nobody’s perfect and everybody makes mistakes. Some are big and some are small, but mine was huge. That doesn’t mean I’m a bad person. I’m just learning from my mistake. Not only has it changed the impact on how I look at life, but it’s also helped me realize who is important in life verses the fake people, drugs, so on. Some stand by my side and some are against me, but at the end of the day, I’m the one who became a man and took responsibility.

He says he wasn't embarrassed by it all. Geiger is now working toward his future.

"Well, I'm actually working on getting my GED and then after that I'm going to be an aircraft mechanic in the Navy," said Geiger III.

"He just got around the wrong bunch and just had to, you know, tighten the ropes a little bit," Gieger Jr. says.
