Police identify man found lying on road shot who died in hospital

A man died in the hospital from a gunshot wound after he was found lying in the road near Stanton College Preparatory School

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died in the hospital Sunday morning after someone found him lying in the road suffering from a gunshot wound near Stanton College Preparatory School, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. 

Police identified the victim as 20-year-old Brandon Jamal McMorris, who was found lying in the intersection of West 13th Street and Payne Avenue, officials said. The man was driven by the two people who found him to UF Health Jacksonville, where he died, JSO Sgt. Jay Farhat said.

"This area’s been quiet," area resident, Tony Yomiong, said. "It’s quiet with the school right there but the shooting is unreal. I can't believe that happened." 

The two people who drove the man to the hospital are being questioned by police, officials said.
