Students form world's largest human "FSU Torch"

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The students at Florida State University truly embodied school spirit Thursday afternoon in Tallahassee.

Emerging Technologies students, along with FSU Professor Paul Marty, successfully formed the world's largest human "FSU Torch" on campus as part of its Innovation Celebration.

The human torch stretched across Landis Green near Strozier Library to Landis Hall.

The project recruited not only students, but faculty and staff that wished to participate.

An aerial picture was taken of the historic moment and will become part of the student-produced video spotlighting FSU's innovators and their commitment to teaching new technologies.

FSU President John Thrasher even joined in on the effort. He stood in the center of the FSU Torch of Innovation at Legacy Fountain waving to the camera-equipped drone flying 400 feet overhead.

“The students have been working very hard to pull it off,” Marty said. “A lot of people have been stepping up to help them.”

Marty said there is a theme every year for the innovation project. This year's theme was "Light Your Torch."
