Coast Guard airlifts woman, 71, injured on cruise ship
Woman falls, suffers head injury on Carnival Ecstasy
File photoDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Coast Guard airlifted a 71-year-old woman Friday from the Carnival Ecstasy cruise ship 75 miles east of Daytona.
Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center was told by the cruise ship's crew that around 1:15 p.m., a passenger fell and suffered a head injury.
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater was called to assist around 3:45 p.m. and arrived at the ship around 5:15 p.m.
The helicopter crew took the woman, along with a nurse from the cruise ship, to Shands UF in Gainesville.
It is unknown what the woman's condition is at this time.
