Police: Bradford County escaped inmate captured in Jacksonville
Stolen DOC van also recovered, JSO says
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An inmate who escaped from the Florida State Prison in Bradford County on Friday afternoon in a stolen Department of Corrections work van was captured several hours later on Jacksonville's Westside, authorities said.
Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith said 33-year-old Thor Harold Bahrman, a minimum custody inmate who's originally from the St. Johns County area, left undetected about 3 p.m. Friday.
He did not harm any Florida DOC staff when he escaped, Smith said.
The manhunt led Jacksonville police to the area of Interstate 295 and 103rd Street just after 9 p.m.
Less than an hour later, SWAT members and patrols located Bahrman at a nearby gas station, where he was taken into custody, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The stolen van was also recovered in the area, police said.
