JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 30-year-old Jacksonville woman accused of having sex with a boy was arrested Sunday, according to her affidavit for arrest warrant.
Kelsey Dunsing is charged with lewd and lascivious battery, and engaging in sexual activity with a person 12 or older but less than 16 years old.
According to the affidavit, Dunsing and the boy met on a dating website about six months ago, and the two had sex multiple times at an apartment on Myrtle Avenue North, which is listed as Dunsing's current address.
The father of Dunsing's children, who did not want to be identified, told News4Jax on Wednesday that’s impossible because she didn't live there during the time frame police said the encounters happened.
"I dispute that because in November and December, we were homeless and she was on the streets with me," he said. "I was in and out of the hospital with strokes, so I know she was there with me."
Investigators said they have screenshots of Facebook messages between the two discussing intercourse and whether she should take a pregnancy test.
But the father of her children and close friends have come to her defense, saying it appears she was set up by a boy pretending to be an adult.
The father of Dunsing's children said they're not a couple, but they remain friends. He said that Dunsing introduced the boy to him, her sister and other friends.
"Everybody asked for ID because we figured he looked kind of young. He pulled out an ID that said he was over the age of 21, and it says 'state of Florida' on it," the father of Dunsing's children said. "How do they let someone like that slip through the system that legitimately says 'over the age of 21?'"
According to friends, Dunsing learned she was under investigation in January. They said she had profiles on two adult websites, but they believe she didn't knowingly hook up with a minor.
"It was actually nerve-wracking," said Lenny Thomas, one of Dunsing's friends. "I would have never thought she would do anything like this and I still don't think she would do something like this."
News4Jax checked the dating websites that Dunsing's friends said she has profiles on, and both require members to register as adults.
Her friends also worry that if Dunsing is convicted in the case, her criminal history would be used against her when it comes to sentencing. According to court records, she has been arrested 14 times, and two of her many convictions were for public aid fraud and prostitution.
"It could be a possibility because of the fact that she has prior convictions," Thomas said.
Dunsing was booked early Monday into the Duval County jail and ordered held on $50,000 bond.
