Residents of the apartment complex who knew the woman are upset over the tragedy.

"It is sad, you know? She's a real sweet girl, I'm sorry to hear she got killed," said Shawna Norris.

Police believe the woman was shot near the city park and made her way to a nearby apartment complex in search of help.

"She did not bother anybody. She went in her house, closed the door, that was it. She worked all the time. I think she had one kid and was pregnant with another one," Norris said.

Neighbors, including Charles Bowes III, are disturbed by the details.

"It’s terrible. Real terrible. That’s stupid to shoot a woman. That’s wrong," Bowes said.

"You got to be careful. This day and time there’s a lot of crime going on."

Homicide detectives spent Sunday morning gathering evidence and looking for witnesses.

Investigators said this might be a hard case to solve without any information from the public, so if you know anything, you're asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office at 630-0500.
