JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A father and son were shot by a neighbor with a handgun Thursday afternoon at a home in East Arlington, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Lt. Steve Mullen with JSO said it happened around 3 p.m. on Country Cove Court, which is off Kernan Boulevard. The suspected shooter entered his neighbor's home through the garage and opened fire, sending the two men to the hospital.

After a few hours, Robert Bibeau and his son Abraham Bibeau were released and returned home. They spoke to News4Jax about their horrific experience.

"The gun was pointing at my head. He pulled the trigger and it didn't go off," said Abraham Bibeau, who survived a shot to his chest.

After the shooting, the neighbor went back into his home, Mullen said.

A SWAT team was called to coax the suspected shooter out of his home, JSO said. The man was taken into custody and may have been impaired.

Mullen said the suspected shooter will be charged with aggravated battery and assault. The man also pointed a gun at a third neighbor.

Robert Bibeau said he's thankful to be alive. Neither he nor his son know why the shooter opened fire.

"Probably just to kill me. I have no idea," said Robert Bibeau, who was shot in his leg. "We're fortunate, believe me. There is a man upstairs."
