After weeks of violence, day of healing brings Jacksonville together

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville City councilman hosted a city day of healing Monday. Councilman Reggie Gaffney gathered citizens, ministers, business leaders and public officials together at City Hall to put an end to the city’s violence.

"I think a city that works together is going to be much stronger,” Gaffney said. “I don’t care how much money you throw at a bad problem. If the community is not supporting that initiative, then that’s not going to work.”

Gaffney hopes this could become an event held several times a year in order to bring the city together. City officials told News4Jax there is no problem in using the chambers for days of prayer and healing.

According to News4Jax records, there have been 32 homicides in Duval County so far in 2019.
