Southbound lanes of St. Johns Bluff Road shut down for hours
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A motorcyclist died Friday evening after he ran into a car that turned left in front of him on Jacksonville's Southside, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m. on St. Johns Bluff Road in front of the Morocco Shrine Auditorium. Troopers said the motorcyclist, 23-year-old Alex Latak, of Jacksonville, was transported but later died at Memorial Hospital.
A 20-year-old woman was driving the car that troopers said was turning left onto Morocco Shrine Circle. She was not injured.
The Highway Patrol continues to investigate. The preliminary report said charges are pending.
All southbound lanes were shut down for several hours.
This is the second deadly crash involving a motorcycle this week in Jacksonville. On Tuesday, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Blanding Boulevard after colliding with a car and being thrown from his bike.
