Person shot in Westside neighborhood dies

Neighbors said police were called to the house before

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A person was shot Saturday afternoon in front of a home on Tango Lane South on Westside and doctors said the victim died at a hospital.

Sources told News4Jax the victim was a man and the shooting may have been a drive-by.

Police will not identify the victim nor released much information but did say the victim knew the shooter and there was a dispute before the shooting.

Several people heard the gunshots about 4 p.m.

“I was out back cutting grass and as soon as I cut the motor off, I heard pow, pow," one witness said. "Two minutes later I heard someone screaming over there, so I got in my truck and drove around there and that’s when I saw a guy laying in the driveway.”

Multiple neighbors told News4Jax this isn’t the first time police have responded to the home. One person said officers were at the home about 5 a.m. Saturday morning.

Neighbors say they have seen cars pulling up to the home all the time and that they have often suspected drug activity. When asked about that, police couldn’t confirm if officers have ever been at that house on drug calls.

Police said they are looking at home surveillance video from several homes on the block to help determine what actually happened.
