JFRD: 1 dead in Jacksonville house fire

Foul play not suspected in blaze, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One person died Monday night in a house fire near the Cisco Gardens area of Northwest Jacksonville, authorities said.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, crews responded about 7:40 p.m. to a manufactured home engulfed in flames on Messer Road, near the intersection of Garden Street and Jones Road. Video showed multiple firetrucks, as well as Jacksonville police, at the scene.

While putting out the fire, according to police, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department found an adult inside the residence who died in the fire. That person was not immediately identified.

An incident report shows a neighbor told police that he was awakened by a loud pop and his house lights flickered. The neighbor said he then ran to the burning home and opened the door, but could not go in because the house was filled with heavy smoke.

No foul play was suspected in the fire, police said. The source of the fire was not immediately known.

The state fire marshal is investigating.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500.
