FHP: Middleburg woman, 81, dies after being struck by 2 vehicles

Crash cancel all transportation for Wilkinson Elementary School

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – A woman was struck by two vehicles and killed Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened after 5 a.m. on County Road 218 near Country Estates Road, according to FHP.

Troopers said Louise Gonzalez, 81, was walking across C.R. 218 when she was struck by a Ford Ranger traveling west on C.R. 218. Troopers said the woman then fell into the eastbound lane, where she was hit by a Honda Insight.

Gonzalez, of Middleburg, died at the scene.

The drivers of the two vehicles were reported uninjured.

C.R. 218 was shut down for hours between Mallard Road and Carter Spencer Road and FHP asked drivers to find an alternate route. The road reopened at 10 a.m.

Due to the crash, all transportation for Wilkinson Elementary School was canceled. No buses were sent to pick up students Friday, according to a Facebook post from the school, and all absences and tardies were excused.

"Any student who is able to make it to school today will have transportation this afternoon," the Facebook post read.

Absences and tardies were also excused at Wilkinson Junior High School.

The crash investigation is ongoing.
