Clear weather for tonight's night launch of Falcon 9 rocket

Night launch should be visible along First Coast

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Falcon 9 rocket is set to blast off Wednesday carrying technology designed to increase broadband internet access around the world.

The SpaceX launch is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. from Cape Canaveral’s Complex 40 launch pad. The launch has a 90-minute window opening to account for delays but weather should not be a concern.

In fact, sky conditions over Jacksonville should be clear enough to see the nighttime rocket engines high in the southern sky.

The payload contains 60 SpaceX Starlink satellites, which is a project aimed at covering the planet with internet connectivity.

Future plans are for nearly 12,000 satellites to go into low-Earth orbit, which will provide downlink data from space to internet users.

The first group of up to 1,584 Starlink satellites will operate in orbits 341 miles above Earth.
