FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – A deer was rescued twice on Wednesday in Fernandina Beach, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.
Wildlife officers were first called to CVS pharmacy on Sadler Road near A1A to rescue a six-point buck that was stuck in a walled retention pond, FWC spokeswoman Karen Parker told News4Jax.

The deer was able to walk around, as the water was not deep, but it couldn't get over the wall.
FWC officers cleared a crowd that had formed so that the deer could relax, and then came up with a plan to remove the deer from the pond with ropes.
Eventually, Parker said, the deer was able to regain its strength once the spectators were moved back, and it jumped out of the pond and ran through an open gate, heading toward Fort Clinch State Park.
But along its way back home, the deer got sidetracked and stopped at an elementary school, where it once again became stuck -- this time in the fenced playground area of the school, Parker said.
The deer was herded out through a gate and, once again, continued its journey toward Fort Clinch State Park.
Wildlife officials said the deer is now free to roam around Fort Clinch, as well as the town of Fernandina Beach and the Fernandina Greenway.
