Two men from Brunswick will spend the rest of their lives behind bars after they were convicted of killing a 35-year-old Brunswick man in what prosecutors described as a retaliation ambush shooting in 2024.
Last Wednesday, James Lee Roberts, 53, and Sheldon Tarence Wright, 35, were found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault in the 2024 shooting death of Bobby Leon Harris, prosecutors said.
Roberts and Wright were then sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole by the Hon. Judge Anthony Harrison.
Evidence presented at trial showed that on Oct. 12, 2024, the Roberts and Wright lay in wait in the dark for Harris to walk home from the store.
When he passed them, Wright began shooting and hit Harris three times. Once in the back of both knees and once in the back of the chest, killing Harris.
The state presented photographic and video evidence showing both Roberts and Wrihgt before, during and after the crime.
Roberts believed that Harris had been responsible for his being shot six months earlier in 2024 and brought Wright to Brunswick to help carry out “street justice” by killing Harris, prosecutors said.
The District Attorney’s Office said it would like to thank the Glynn County Police Department, especially Det. Troy Bergiadis for his tremendous work on this case, which was prosecuted by Keagan Waystack and Elizabeth Presley.
