Man critically injured when SUV hit tree on University Boulevard

First responders were called to a crash Thursday night on University Boulevard. (WJXT)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A young man was critically injured in a crash Thursday night in the University Park area of Arlington, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported around 9 p.m. on University Boulevard at Primrose Lane.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said one person was pulled from the white Ford Explorer and then taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

JSO said the young man appeared to be in his 20s. He was trapped inside the SUV when it struck a tree, police said.

A witness told police that the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on University Boulevard North when the driver lost control and crashed head-on into the tree on the opposite side of the road.

No one else was in the SUV, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
