JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was hospitalized Sunday night after a bizarre incident that began with a fight at a Southside apartment complex pool, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO said officers were called around 8 p.m. to the report of a battery at the pool in the Ciel Luxury Apartments on Skyway Drive near Southside and J. Turner Butler boulevards.

Officers separated the people involved in the fight as soon as they got to the scene. They said one of the people was found at a nearby apartment unit, but when officers tried to take him into custody, he “began resisting officers.”
The initial report did not indicate what specifically the man was doing to resist, but JSO said another person stepped in and tried to grab the officer.
As the officer was fighting with the second person, the first person ran into a bedroom and barricaded himself, police said.
A K-9 officer was called to help get the man out of the bedroom, and he willingly surrendered when he heard the dog, JSO said.
But when he came out of the bedroom, he was suffering from a self-inflicted wound, officers said.
Officers helped the man until paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital, where he is expected to recover.
JSO said no officers were hurt during the incident.
