Jacksonville police arrest man suspected in 2 deadly shootings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Thursday night announced that a man suspected in two deadly shootings has been arrested and charged with murder.

According to police, the first shooting was reported on June 21, 2019, and that a 27-year-old man was found shot to death on Doeboy Street in Northwest Jacksonville.

The other shooting was reported on Sept. 9, 2019, on West Moncrief Road. In that shooting, police said a 17-year-old was found shot to death at the Calloway Cove Apartments.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, detectives who were investigating the crimes learned the same man was suspected in both shootings. On Tuesday, an arrest warrant was obtained for second-degree murder in each case.

Police arrested Jatari Jaquan Jones, 25. Investigators said Jones was in possession of a firearm and illegal drugs at the time of his arrest.

Records on Thursday night showed Jones was held without bond in the Duval County jail. His next scheduled court date was set for Dec. 2.
