3-year-old girl found shot in Jacksonville neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Detectives are investigating what led to a 3-year-old girl being shot Wednesday night on McMillan Street, just off Kings Road.

According to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Lt. Damone, officers were called to McMillan Street at about 6 p.m. in reference to a shooting. They found the young girl suffering from one gunshot wound to her leg and she was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Department of Children and Families was notified but Damone said police aren’t sure of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“Violent crimes detectives are investigating and we’re trying to determine what type of shooting this was,” Damone said.

News4Jax spoke with Pastor James Huggin of the Assembly Love and Faith Church, which is just down the road.

“My heart was sad about the 3-year-old that got shot. It really touched home,” Huggin said. “We’ve got to make a difference. We got to get out in the streets and walk the streets and make a difference.”

The young girl was said to be in stable condition. No arrests were announced.
