FHP: 17-year-old killed in Northside crash involving semitruck

4 others injured in crash, FHP says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A teenager is dead and four other people were injured following a crash Monday afternoon on the city’s Northside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash, which involved a Honda Accord and a semitruck, happened about 3:30 p.m. on Dunn Avenue at New Kings Road.

According to the FHP report, a 17-year-old woman from Callahan, who was a passenger in the car, died in the crash. A 16-year-old boy, 15-year-old girl, and 19-year-old man -- all of which were passengers in the car -- had critical injuries. The driver of the car, a 20-year-old man, had minor injuries.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Troopers said the Accord was turning onto Dunn Avenue, and turned in front of the tractor trailer, which was traveling along New Kings Road.

News4Jax spoke with several family members who reached out after hearing about the crash.

A woman told News4Jax that her teenage granddaughter was in the Honda and the family is trying to get answers.

“I was told one of them died and the mom can’t get any information if it was her or someone else. She was to have supposed to have been in the vehicle with some of her cousins,” she said. “Who she was with and what happened to them?”

The grandmother said the girl’s father was driving down from Georgia to find out if she’s OK.

“I’m praying that she’s fine,” she said. “I love my granddaughter to death, and I’m just praying that nothing bad happened to her.”

Another woman, who said she was the sister of the driver of the car, told News4Jax that he and friends were leaving a shopping center when the crash happened. She said she got a panicked call from him after the crash but hasn’t heard from him since.

A section of the road was closed for several hours as the Florida Highway Patrol investigated.

JFRD and officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were also at the scene.
