JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man wanted on an out-of-county attempted murder warrant died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office traffic stop late Friday night, JSO announced on Saturday.
Just after 9:45 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of New Berlin Road and Starratt Road on the Northside. The suspect was identified as having an active out-of-county arrest warrant for attempted murder.

Officers made multiple announcements and deployed pepperballs in an effort to get the suspect to exit the vehicle. The sheriff’s office described pepperballs as non-lethal de-escalation tools used by trained officers in order to help take suspects into custody.
JSO drone footage revealed a firearm in the suspect’s lap and signs of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators later determined the suspect had shot himself at the start of the traffic stop.
The vehicle was cleared, and JSO said the suspect was pronounced dead.
Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect, or provided details of where the warrant originated.
Detectives from JSO’s Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit and the Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating.
