Boy riding electric scooter struck, killed by car while crossing street

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A boy was struck and killed by a car while he was riding an electric scooter Tuesday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

According to Lt. Mana, with the Sheriff’s Office, police were called to the scene at approximately 6:40 p.m. He said the boy, whose age was not specified, was struck while attempting to cross Rolling River Boulevard from Rolling Stream Drive.

Mana said it doesn’t appear that the boy checked for oncoming traffic before crossing the road, when he was struck by a Chevy Camaro. He said the driver of the Camaro remained on scene to speak with police.

“Based on the preliminary information that we have, the Camaro did not appear to be speeding,” Mana said.

The boy had not yet been positively identified. “Please keep the victim and his family in your thoughts and prayers,” Mana said.
