Taylor County deputy shot 2 weeks ago is now home

The Alachua County Sheriff’s office announced Monday that Troy Anderson, the Taylor County deputy shot on February 22 is now recovering at home.

A ‘Florida Blue Alert’ was issued after Anderson was shot three times during a traffic stop on U.S. 19 South. Anderson was treated for gunshot wounds to his jaw, neck, and hand.

After a 10-hour search for suspect Gregory Miedema, they found him dead at a Dixie County home. Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Miedema was killed while trying to break into a home. The homeowner exchanged gunfire with Miedema, killing him, according to FDLE.

A Facebook post Monday showed deputies from Alachua County, Taylor County, the Gainesville Police Department and University of Florida Public Safety, who escorted Deputy Anderson, his family and work family from UF Health to the Gilchrist County line as he made his way home. At the county line, the escort was picked up by the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s office.
