Officer accused of sending lewd photos to minor faces new charges after another teen comes forward: warrant

Officer Alejandro Carmona remains on unpaid suspension from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – New charges have been filed against a Jacksonville police officer accused of sending nude images and videos to a teenager after another teen came forward with allegations against him, according to a Clay County affidavit for an arrest warrant obtained Friday.

Officer Alejandro Carmona, with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, is charged with one count of online solicitation of a child, four counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device, all of which are felonies, in this case, according to the arrest warrant.

That warrant shows a teenage boy told the Clay County Sheriff’s Office that he met Carmona through a friend and frequently saw him at the gym. The teen said Carmona started sending him nude videos and images on Snapchat, according to the warrant.

The warrant also shows Carmona’s cellphone was seized, a forensic examination was conducted and numerous pictures and videos of Carmona “in various stages of undress” were found. The warrant states both Carmona’s Snapchat account and the teen’s Snapchat account were viewed on Carmona’s phone, and there were numerous lewd files of the teen that were taken at the teen’s home in Clay County.

The teen told News4JAX that he was 17 years old in the files and that he sent the files to Carmona after Carmona “solicited him for ‘nudes,’” the warrant says.

The warrant also states there were additional lewd images of other children on Carmona’s phone.

In the other case against Carmona that News4JAX previously reported on in March, he is charged with one count of solicitation of a child, one count of transmission of harmful material to a child and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device, all of which are felonies.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said that investigation began when a teenage boy came forward to police. According to Clay County Undersheriff Ron Lendvay, the boy, who was 16 at the time, met Carmona at a gym. Investigators said that nothing happened at the gym and that the offenses he’s accused of occurred online.

“The victim believed he was going to get workout advice via Snapchat, but instead started to get unusual requests to send pictures of himself to the suspect with his shirt off,” Lendvay said. “After a few months of Snapchatting, the suspect sent lewd pictures of himself, including photos and videos featuring full frontal nudity that also included the suspect’s face.”

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, when the teen came forward to deputies, an undercover deputy then pretended to be the victim online.

“During the undercover chats, the suspect verified that he knew the victim was underage and had just turned 17,” Lendvay said.

News4JAX spoke with a woman who is retired law enforcement and a former co-worker of Carmona’s. The woman, who wished to remain unnamed, said the allegations are hard to digest.

“It was very shocking because I’ve known him for several years and I’ve known him for being a family man,” she said.

News4JAX learned that Carmona has a history of internal affairs investigations. An employee administrative investigation history document obtained from JSO shows Carmona was the subject of 28 complaints from citizens and other officers from 2008 to 2021.

In a recorded interview, a man told police that Carmona became angry with him after pulling him over, accusing him of cutting the officer off.

“He started yelling at me, saying I tried to kill him. And I explained to him, I said, ‘No sir, I apologize I was trying to get around the way. He said, ‘Shut up, I’m talking.’ He was really belligerent yelling at me,” the man said.

And a body camera policy violation complaint was filed against Carmona two days after an incident involving Brittany Williams. She was accused of assaulting Carmona in his police cruiser after she confronted him for parking in her driveway.

Carmona, 47, remains on unpaid suspension from JSO, which intends to fire him.

As of Friday, Carmona was being held in the Clay County jail.
