I-95 reopens hours after deadly crash shuts down all northbound lanes in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 52-year-old man died Friday morning in a crash on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County, not far from International Golf Parkway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Lanes were shut down for hours and traffic backed up for miles after the crash.

FHP said the Port Orange man was driving on I-95 northbound around 10:30 a.m. when he veered into the left shoulder and hit an unoccupied disabled SUV. The man died at the scene.

A highway camera showed a vehicle on its side on the rain-soaked road.

Traffic was backed up for miles to County Road 214, traffic maps showed, and the going was slow in southbound lanes.

Traffic was back flowing normally by 4 p.m.

Last year, there were five deadly crashes on I-95 in St. Johns County, according to News4JAX records.
