Two dead after police pursuit involving stolen vehicle in Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Two people are dead after a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle from Alachua County rolled over and struck a cement pole, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the FHP as they pursued a recently stolen vehicle from Alachua County.

Four individuals were in the car and an FHP trooper said they appeared to be wearing ski masks.

Officials said the vehicle exited U.S. 301 and traveled west on State Road 24 in the Waldo area of Alachua County.

FHP said the trooper intentionally hit the Honda, causing it to decelerate, and then the trooper performed a PIT maneuver. The vehicle then rolled over before striking a cement pole.

Investigators said one of the occupants of the vehicle was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene.

Alachua County Fire and Rescue transported the other occupants to a hospital where another occupant was pronounced deceased.

FHP said more information will be released when it is available.
