Worker at fireworks tent shot when he tried to stop robbery, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ€“ A man in his 60s who was working at a fireworks tent near St. Augustine Road was shot late Thursday night when he tried to stop a robbery, according to the Jacksonville Sheriffโ€™s Office.

Officers were called to a reported shooting at Dupont Avenue and St. Augustine Road around 11 p.m. Thursday. They found the man shot in the torso.

He was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Investigators said they learned that the man confronted a robber while working at the fireworks tent and โ€œa handgun was discharged.โ€

The robber grabbed the cash register and ran from the scene.

Another employee who was there at the time wasnโ€™t hurt.

Police said they did not have a description of the suspect.
