Jacksonville airport reopens with more than 40 flights canceled after winter storm

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville International Airport reopened Wednesday at noon after the rare winter storm, which brought snow and ice to the area, prompted its closure Tuesday evening.
According to FlightAware.com, 48 departing flights out of JAX were canceled and four of them were delayed as of 12:20 p.m. Moreover, 23 arriving flights were canceled and five were delayed.
The first commercial flight out of JAX is set to depart at 2:45 p.m., according to the airport’s website.

On Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service in Jacksonville confirmed the snow at its office next to the Jacksonville International Airport.
About 2,235 flights within the U.S. or entering or leaving the country were canceled Wednesday with about 13,790 more flights delayed, according to online tracker FlightAware.com .
