Bicyclist dies after being hit by truck on I-75 exit ramp to SR 47 in Columbia County

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man died Tuesday morning after being hit by a truck towing a trailer on the exit ramp from Interstate 75 to State Road 47 in Columbia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the truck was traveling north on the northbound exit ramp before coming to a complete stop at the intersection with SR 47. At the same time, a bicyclist was traveling south within the pedestrian crosswalk.

The truck driver, a 58-year-old man from Melbourne, turned right to enter SR 47 and ran over the bicyclist on the crosswalk, according to the incident report.

The bicyclist, a 64-year-old man from Lake City, died on the scene, FHP said.
