Officials said around 5:40 p.m., the sheriff’s office received multiple reports of a road rage incident happening between a pickup truck and a black sedan on Blanding Blvd. near Long Bay Road.

Shortly after, dispatch received more details that shots had been fired from the pickup truck, and the sedan had pulled into the HCA Middleburg emergency room.

Deputies responded to the area and found one of the victims, an 18-year-old, being treated by hospital staff at HCA Middleburg after he had suffered a gunshot wound in his right thigh.

Deputies then found out there were two other passengers inside the sedan at the time of the incident, a 17-year-old and another 18-year-old.

After speaking with the victims and some witnesses, deputies were able to locate Rodriguez driving his pickup truck westbound on County Road 218 and Bluejay Drive.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Rodriguez and took him into custody.

According to his arrest report, deputies observed a black and tan semi-automatic handgun tucked between the driver’s seat and the center console in plain view.

Rodriguez was then transported to the Clay County jail.
