CLAY COUNTY, Fla. The Clay County Utility Authority on Tuesday issued a boil water advisory for a portion of the Ridgecrest neighborhood after an emergency repair was made to the area’s water distribution system, the utility said.

The advisory will remain in effect until the Clay County Utility Authority conducts a bacteriological survey of the area’s public drinking water supply. Two consecutive days of satisfactory bacteriological samples are required before the advisory can be lifted.

“The Authority will post a notice on your door and update our website when the FDEP lifts the ‘Drinking Water Advisory,’” the utility said. " While the water is off, we recommend that you turn off all appliances that automatically draw water - including but not limited to washing machines, dishwashers, ice makers, water heaters, water softeners. “

Service will be restored once CCU technicians have completed the necessary repairs, flushed the water lines, and measured disinfection levels to ensure water quality.

Upon completion, it is advised that affected residents run the water in their kitchen and bathrooms for several minutes to remove any sediment or air that may have entered the system.

“If there is air in your system, the water will appear milky,” the utility explained. “This is no cause for alarm. Please flush the line until the air has been removed.”
