Fatal hit-and-run on Atlantic Blvd. kills bicyclist; JSO seeks dark sedan (WJXT)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning on Atlantic Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. in the 6500 block of Atlantic Blvd. JSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit said a bicyclist was riding westbound on Atlantic Blvd. when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead upon arrival.

The driver did not stop to render aid. According to JSO, the suspect vehicle fled southbound on Glynlea Road following the crash.

“A witness describes the suspect vehicle as a dark sedan, possibly a 2012-2014 black Toyota Camry,” JSO said. The suspect vehicle is expected to have front-end damage from the collision.

The crash marks the 52nd traffic fatality in Duval County this year and the fourth involving a bicycle.
