Baptist Health says it made significant concessions during negotiations and offered Cigna terms it believes align with other plans in the market — but Cigna declined.

“Negotiations are a common part of business operations. Because of our financial stewardship, we were able to make significant concessions and offer Cigna better terms that align with other plans in our market,” the health system said in a statement. “Cigna declined our proposal and terminated its agreement with Baptist Health hospitals effective June 23, 2026.”

Baptist Health says it began proactively notifying Cigna patients so they can reach out to Cigna and their employers about potential impacts to their coverage.

“We have had a long-standing, valued relationship with Cigna, and we are surprised and disappointed by their decision to end our contract,” the statement continues. “Our goal remains to negotiate a fair contract with minimal disruption.”

“We asked Cigna to reconsider so we can reach an agreement before the termination takes effect,” the statement reads. “We understand that patients may be concerned and frustrated by possible disruptions in care with their trusted Baptist Health providers.”

Despite the contract dispute, Baptist Health is reassuring patients that there are currently no changes to in-network access and that its Emergency Centers will remain in-network regardless of the outcome.

The health system says it will continue to keep patients and the community updated at BaptistJax.com/Cigna. Patients with questions can also call a dedicated phone line at 904-202-3210 or email questions@bmcjax.com, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
