Jacksonville Sees Windiest April Day on Record

Beaches remain under high rip current risk through weekend

. (.)

Clearing skies and comfortably cool temperatures tonight. Patchy to areas of dense fog will be possible through early Saturday.

Not as windy, although as the onshore flow continues, the Rip Current risk will continue through the weekend.

The wind gusts today were in the 20-mph range. On Wednesday, Jacksonville International Airport, Craig Executive Airport and Gainesville saw record-breaking wind.

The National Weather Service Office in Jacksonville reported that JAX recorded the all-time windiest April day with average wind speeds of 22 mph. At Craig Executive, a 52-mph wind gust of 52 mph was the 5th strongest recorded for the month of April and Gainesville ranked 6th for the month with an average wind speed of 15.6 mph.

The onshore flow continues, although much lighter this weekend. This will keep a High Risk of Rip Currents along our beaches this weekend.
