FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival is trading in traditional fireworks for something different this year — a first-ever drone light show.

Festival organizers announced the change after the required fireworks permit was withdrawn due to an active burn ban. In response, they have arranged a choreographed drone show set to light up the sky over the harbor.

“The safety of our community, visitors, and first responders will always come first,” organizers said in a statement.

The drone show is scheduled for Friday, May 1 at 9:30 p.m. Organizers are calling it a “one-of-a-kind visual experience” and say the new format allows the festival’s tradition of community celebration to continue in an innovative way.
