JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville City Council approved an expansion of the city’s 3 a.m. liquor ordinance to the Brooklyn neighborhood during a council meeting Tuesday.
Councilman Jimmy Peluso introduced the bill to bring the extended hours to his district.
Not everyone was on board. Councilman Ron Salem voiced opposition, saying he believed the expansion was happening too soon and that council should wait for more data before moving forward.
Councilman Rahman Johnson held a notice meeting earlier in the day focused on gathering data to assess the current effectiveness of the extended hours.
“In 6 months, the data will come back and determine what we will do to have a real entertainment district,” Johnson said.
Despite the opposition, the measure passed. Peluso celebrated the win for his district.
“Thank you everyone. I am grateful to Councilman Arias for the other bill,” Peluso said.
