JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Residents in Duval County may notice the smell of smoke as plumes from a 1,400-acre wildfire in Lafayette County drift into Northeast Florida. Officials say the South Canal Fire, located southwest of Duval County, is pushing smoke into the region due to strong winds — and conditions are expected to persist through the evening.

Light rain may offer some temporary relief, but smoky conditions are likely to linger until a cold front moves through overnight. Emergency management officials are actively monitoring the situation.

No active wildfires in Duval County

There are no active wildfires within Duval County at this time. However, officials are urging residents — particularly those with health sensitivities — to take precautions until conditions improve.

Those with asthma or other respiratory conditions, pregnant women, young children and adults over 65 should minimize outdoor activity and take extra precautions while smoke remains in the area.
