A Jacksonville man is expected to recover after he was shot in the leg early Saturday morning.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded to the 1300 block of Barnett Street in the Durkeeville neighborhood after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a man in his early 30s who was shot in the leg.

The victim was transported by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue to a local hospital. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
What happened
According to a preliminary investigation, the victim was walking to a nearby convenience store when he was approached by an unknown teen. The victim told detectives the suspect said, “tighten up,” before opening fire.
The suspect then ran off.
He was described as a boy approximately 16 years old, with a thin build.
Investigation underway
Crime Scene detectives were processing the scene for evidence since it happened. JSO said detectives with the Robbery and Violent Crime Unit are interviewing witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video and following up on investigative leads.
The victim is cooperating with investigators, according to JSO. Detectives and officers are also conducting a thorough canvass of the area to determine whether any nearby businesses or residences were struck by gunfire. No shell casings have been located at this time, JSO said.
Investigators believe the shooting to be an isolated incident, though JSO encourages anyone who feels unsafe to contact the agency.
