NAHUNTA, Ga. – Brantley County Sheriff’s Office deputies shot and killed a suspect Thursday afternoon after the individual presented a firearm during an attempted arrest.
Around 5:45 p.m., deputies responded to a call for service regarding an individual with outstanding warrants. The incident led to a vehicle pursuit, followed by a physical altercation.

During the encounter, the suspect pulled out a firearm. Deputies discharged their service weapons, striking the individual, who later died from injuries sustained in the shooting. No deputies were physically injured.
“Any time an incident like this occurs, it is tragic for everyone involved,” said Brantley County Sheriff Len Davis. “Our deputies were faced with a rapidly evolving and dangerous situation. We ask the community to keep everyone affected by this incident in their thoughts and prayers as the investigation moves forward.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to lead the active investigation. All deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard procedure in incidents of this nature.
The identity of the suspect has not been released. The GBI will provide all future updates on the case.
