Inmate wielding contraband weapon attacks two officers at Florida State Prison

STARKE, Fla. – Two officers were attacked by an inmate wielding an “improvised contraband weapon” at Florida State Prison on Friday, the Florida Department of Corrections confirmed to News4JAX.

The FDOC said the incident is under active investigation by the Office of the Inspector General and declined to provide additional details at this time.

The department noted that inmates who cause harm to others face consequences including administrative sanctions, restrictive housing and, where applicable, criminal charges.

The officers’ conditions are unknown at this time.
