Homeowners can apply online from July 1 through Aug. 31, or until quantity limits are met, the city said.

There are eight available tree species, including: Live Oak, Red Cedar, East Palatka Holly, Redbud, Yaupon Holly, Simpson’s Stopper, Winged Elm, Sweetbay Magnolia.

City staff will review applications and come out to your property to make sure the tree you want will fit the space.

Final application selections will be made in September, and trees will be planted in late winter or early spring.

The city pointed out, though, that once the tree is planted, it’s your responsibility as the property owner to maintain it.

Complete information regarding the program, including eligibility criteria and the application form, is available on the City’s website (www.citystaug.com/treecanopy).

As part of the application process, residents will be able to verify the location of the property address as being within the City limits.
